TALENT: Todd Levi

AGENCY: Donor Republic

PRODUCTION: Alt VFX / Sounds Like Butter

MS were calling out for a hero; a heroic voice to champion their popular MS Readathon Heroes program. Their dynamic agency, Donor Republic knew the super Todd Levi was up to the challenge.

The action-packed spot was produced at Alt VFX, with Harry Gold charged with task of bringing the animation to life. Senior Producer Celeste Fairlie pulled all the strings, while Sounds Like Butter’s master sound engineer, Stevie Leigh Batiste dialled up another masterful performance behind the mixing desk.

TALENT: Todd Levi

Lefty, greenies, pinko, fact based nonsense – as told by BrisVO’s very real Todd Levi, and Ralph Scott.

The reality is, if you need a spokesperson to spruik your brand/product/service/event/issue… the multi talented Mr Levi is worth talking to. Or if you just want to listen, check out the podcast: https://www.thereality.wtf/

TALENT: Walter Williams

PRODUCTION: Rolo Voice Productions

Like all his BrisVO counterparts, Walter Williams has adapted his home recording studio to remotely output professional voice tracks on demand. Smart WFH studios like Walt’s means the production of high quality commercials can continue without compromise. In fact, home studios add an extra layer of conveniece for everyone.

No greater testament to this was Walt’s performance for a national TV and Radio Campaign for rolled out for Yamaha Australia.

Walt voiced the spot from his Ultrafonic soundproof vocal booth through his Rode NTG3 Shotgun (or “Hollywood” microphone) and into a TwistedWave DAW on his iMac27. His raw mix was then uploaded to the cloud ready for the post production house to collect and add their final embellishments.

And all this unfolded while the agency, production company director, and the happy client checked-in to supervise via Skpye.

It is the new normal.

TALENT: Thom Larkin

Brisbane based actor, Thomas Larkin has been announced as the 2020 Brian Boak Outstanding Performer Bursary recipient.

Mr Larkin’s bursary of just over $17,000 will allow him to undertake a Masterclass Series of intimate coaching and mentorship in London, under the tutelage of exceptional, world renowned practitioners including Patsy Rodenburg (Head of Voice- Guildhall School of Music and Drama), Michael Attenborough (Director Emeritus- Royal Academy of Dramatic Art) and Mel Churcher (Screen Acting Coach- London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art).

HEAR THOM’S DEMO REELS

Mr Larkin will also engage in a more informal program, shadowing a number of theatre directors in rehearsals to observe their processes and approaches to actor training.

Mr Larkin will utilise his learnings from the Masterclass Series to excel his growth as a performer as well as contribute to the arts landscape in Queensland.

Mr Larkin is no stranger to the Empire Theatre after working with the 2018 Senior IMPACT Ensemble as a creative collaborator on the stirring performance piece inspired by Joan Lindsay’s Picnic at Hanging Rock, Of Myths and Monoliths.

Mr Larkin said he was incredibly grateful for his selection as this year’s Brian Boak Bursary recipient, particularly during this time where growth and expansion in the arts is limited.

“When I originally applied for this bursary the world had never heard of COVID-19. Since then the Arts industry has been one of the hardest hit by this pandemic,” he said.

“It’s now looking increasingly likely that working in theatre or public performance won’t be possible for months to come, and many freelancers or self-employed artists like me face real uncertainty about if, how and when we will be able to continue to work.

“Programs like the Brian Boak Bursary mean that our career trajectories do not need to stall and that prior relationships artists have been growing with companies across the globe can continue.

“Moreover, it means that I have the chance to spend time in a country which is a leader in the Arts, as I have been encouraged by the UK’s pledge of monetary support to their arts industries as well as how they have imagined new ways of continuing to work and connect with audiences while also care-taking themselves operationally and emotionally.”

Mr Larkin plans to return to the Empire Theatre following the completion of the Masterclass Series to run a number of workshops for young performers based on his studies in London.

The Brian Boak Bursary is designed to provide support to a person wishing to pursue a program of study or professional development at a recognised university, specialist post-secondary institution or other centre of excellence in the areas of acting, dancing, singing or instrumental performance.

The Empire Theatres Foundation is proudly supported by Bernoth Properties, Dornbusch Partners, Downlands College, Heritage Bank, Greenridge Group, Horizon Accounting, The Chronicle, Glifford Gouldson Lawyers and Wearing Memories.

TALENT: Lisa-Jane Stockwell

AGENCY: Bright Yellow Agency

PRODUCTION: Sound: Brett Johnson

‘Birdie and the Virus’ is part of the Birdie’s Tree storybook series developed by Children’s Health Queensland through the Queensland Centre for Perinatal and Infant Mental Health.

It’s quite a timely message too.

To get into character, experienced Brisbane voice performer, LJ Stockewell, made sure she dialled up the “Play-School” vibe.

Written by Andrea Baldwin and Illustrated by Anil Tortop, Birdie and the Virus was produced for Children’s Health Queensland by Bright Yellow Agency.

LJ recorded her voice component from her home recording studio before pinging off an MP3 to Brett Johnson for him to work his sound production magic.

And it was magic because LJ had to make up the song before Brett put music under it. Tricky!

Both the client and agency were delighted.

TALENT: Michael Goldman

Michael Goldman has been putting his voice to good use for three decades. Based in Brisbane, the veteran performer has been heard on screens and airwaves across the country and around the world.

You might remember him as from his days on Big Brother, Meerkat Manor… or a mountain of work he’s done for Amart All Sports, Dreamworld, KFC, Toyota and more.

Lately he’s been working on The Wilds for Amazon Prime, Wentworth for Foxtel, and a movie called Monsters of Man directed by Mark Toia. The understated artist has a couple of new demo reels.

Check them out here.

TALENT: Todd Levi

If infectious enthusiasm, performance and versatility were pizza toppings, popular BrisVO voice guy, Todd Levi, would be a Super Supreme with extra anchovies and an added layer of pineapple.

No wonder the creative crew behind the epic Domino’s “No Charge” TV spot put him on their order.

So did he deliver? You bet.

Hot and tasty… and easy on the cheese.

TALENT: Rebecca Frith

PRODUCTION: Playtv

Respected Brisbane-based actor and voice professional, Rebecca Frith, knows just the right performance for any commercial situation. You could say she performs and takes direction like a well-oiled machine; which was precisely the quality the makers of Wellgrove Olive Leaf Extract were looking for their latest TVC. The talented Justin Lyons and Frazer Bailey from PlayTV were summoned to bring the spot life, while the ever-reliable Rosco Batten at Rosco Audio made it all sound sweet.

TALENT: Damien Garvey

Damien Garvey’s versatility, both vocally and visually, is reflected in the range of roles he is sought after for our screens. His showreel shows him as an American Governor, Senior Detective Sergeant at Queensland Police, an unassuming Pub Owner in a lower class Melbourne suburb, a bitter, broken fisherman taking refuge in the bottle, not to mention a corrupt high flying federal politician. As an award-winning actor, Damien always finds the right pitch for each character, as he does for every voice over read, from the softly spoken to the hard sell, from the comedic to the sensitive.

TALENT: Leon Murray

He’s about to hit the big 4-0H and despite a few extra grey hairs Leon’s been in demand across all forms of media.

Lately he’s been heard advising commuters of new Queensland Rail services on radio… urging folks to stay ‘CrimSafe’ while listening to their fave crime podcasts… narrating the latest sustainable forestry practices in corporate video land… and getting fans on their feet for the NRMA Brisbane Broncos’ “IN OUR DNA” TV campaign.

However, it’s the set of TVCs for CUA featured here that proved a real highlight: working with Sam Boyd and the team at VMLY&R and the ever-brilliant Ross at Rosco Audio, urging us all who are fed up with the ‘big 4’ to “put banking back in your hands”. Leon was more than happy to heed the call and lend a voice to that!
